Association Monégasque pour la Protection de la Nature
Monegasque nature protection association, officially named manager of the Larvotto and Spélugues drop-off marine protected areas by ministerial decree in 2018.
The Association Monégasque pour la Protection de la Nature — AMPN — is the Principality’s historic environmental association. Memoria does not publish the names of its officers: no official source consulted names them in a published act.
An association given a public mission
The most important dated fact on this record is a decree: on 20 June 2018, ministerial decree no. 2018-611 on the Larvotto and Spélugues drop-off marine protected areas names AMPN as manager of these habitats. A private association is therefore entrusted with managing marine protected zones in the Principality — a transfer of responsibility worth archiving, and one that links this record to that of Larvotto beach.
The association is often presented as founded in 1975. Memoria does not retain that date: no published official source has confirmed it in the acts consulted, and the record sticks to what is established — management of the protected areas in 2018, and an address published in 2006.
Why it is archived
Monaco has long protected its seabed, and AMPN is one of the instruments. This record joins those of Larvotto beach and Mareterra: together they document how the Principality administers its coastline — a heritage that no one sees and few sources preserve.
