Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco
Monegasque foundation devoted to sustainable management of natural resources and environmental protection, whose purpose was published in the Journal de Monaco on 5 January 2007.
The Prince Albert II Foundation is Monaco’s institution devoted to the environment. Its purpose was published in the Journal de Monaco on 5 January 2007: to act for awareness of the urgency linked to sustainable and equitable management of natural resources, and to support initiatives that respond to it.
A foundation with international reach
It extends a Monegasque tradition: interest in oceans and natural environments has been carried by the Principality since Prince Albert I and his Oceanographic Museum. The Foundation made that a contemporary instrument, active beyond Monaco’s borders.
Memoria also records a revealing institutional detail: in June 2026, the Journal de Monaco publishes a recruitment notice for a section head for secondment to the Foundation. A private foundation served by Monegasque civil servants: that is a Principality peculiarity, and it is dated.
Why it is archived
Monegasque foundations have a hybrid status — private in form, public in reach. By following their Journal de Monaco publications year after year, one rebuilds the chronology of the Principality’s environmental action, which otherwise leaves only annual reports.
