Memoria · Our mission

Archive the Principality, year after year

Memoria is a public, independent guide that archives Monaco’s businesses, places, buildings, institutions, associations and public figures — each with a year-by-year news timeline.

Why archive Monaco

The Principality changes fast. A district is born on the sea in eight years, a beach is rebuilt twice in twenty, a neighbourhood address changes hands with no trace left. Built heritage is protected; intangible heritage — know-how, stories of addresses, memory of construction sites — is not.

Memoria collects that memory, verifies it, dates it and gives it back to everyone. Each record is a timeline: the most recent archives at the top, each tied to a public source.

How a record is built

An entity is published when at least one dated, sourced archive can be shown. Practical information — address, hours, business phone — comes from public sources, and the date of last verification is shown on the record.

Anyone concerned can request a correction: it will be dated and visible on the record, in the spirit of an archive, never a silent deletion.

The Figures collection publishes profiles (architects, sovereigns, artists, athletes…) with the same archive-by-archive timeline: only sourced public acts, never private biography.

Our commitments

  • No personal data — Memoria archives only public professional information: business name, address, opening hours, documented history. No private individuals, no directors cited in a personal capacity.
  • No tracking, no cookies — The site sets no cookies, uses no audience measurement tools and loads no advertising scripts. No third-party scripts are loaded.
  • No advertising, no resale — No sponsored placement, no paid promotion, no resale of data to third parties.
  • A source for every archive — Every archive has a year, a type, a source and, when available, a link to the cited document. An entity cannot be published without at least one sourced archive.
  • Digital accessibility (RGAA) — The site targets compliance with the RGAA framework (WCAG 2.1 AA): keyboard navigation, screen readers, contrast, skip link. The statement and dedicated contact are on the Accessibility page.

Each collection has its categories and its own collection pace. No collection displays an unverified record.
