Héliport de Monaco
Heliport created by Sovereign Ordinance of 31 August 1981 on the Fontvieille land reclamation, then reorganised by an ordinance of 1994.
The Monaco heliport is created by Sovereign Ordinance No. 7.190 of 31 August 1981, published in the Journal de Monaco on 4 September. It is located in Fontvieille — again on land reclaimed from the sea about fifteen years earlier.
Why an ordinance
The form of the act is instructive. An airport facility does not open through a simple operating decision: it is created by sovereign ordinance, making it an act of State rather than a private initiative. The record therefore carries an official, enforceable date, not a commercial opening date.
Ordinance No. 11.300 of 4 July 1994 then revises the legal framework of the facility, thirteen years after its creation: two acts a decade apart document the administrative life of a facility the public sees as a simple transfer service to Nice airport.
Why it is archived
Transport infrastructure is often missing from local archives: destinations and fares are known, not the acts that established them. Memoria keeps the act.
The facts are paraphrased; only the source is cited. A correction, a missing date? Write to Memoria.
