The Stade Louis II was inaugurated on January 25, 1985 in the Fontvieille district — that is to say on land which did not exist thirty years earlier, since the Fontvieille land was reclaimed from the sea from the mid-1960s.

A memory correction

The file contains a clarification which is important for an archive guide: the architects of the stadium are Henry Pottier, Jacques Rechsteiner, Philippe Godin, Rainier Boisson and Joseph Iori, named in the Journal de Monaco of February 1, 1985. The name of Henry Rey, often associated with the operation, is that of a Monegasque notary — several notarial offices in the place also bear his signature in the legal insertions that Memoria cites elsewhere.

Memoria prefers to record the exact list rather than letting an approximate attribution circulate: this is precisely the kind of error that a directory copies step by step without ever going back to the act.

What the sheet does not claim to know

The date of completion of the work is not published separately from the inauguration: Memoria therefore retains the only certified date, that of the inauguration, specifying that it is valid for the commissioning of the work.

The facts are paraphrased; only the source is cited. A correction, a missing date? Write to Memoria.

Inauguration of the stadium and commemorative plaque

The Journal de Monaco publishes the report of the inauguration of the Stade Louis II, on January 25, 1985, as well as the text of the commemorative plaque. The same issue names the architects of the work: Henry Pottier, Grand Prix de Rome, Jacques Rechsteiner, Philippe Godin, Rainier Boisson and Joseph Iori. The fact can be read on pages 110-111 of the issue; Memoria cites the official PDF of the Journal, as newspapers of this era did not have an article published as a separate page.
