Association Monégasque des Activités Financières
Professional body for Monaco's licensed banking and financial firms — formerly the Association Monégasque des Banques, renamed AMAF in 2007 — which organises the sector's professional certification.
The Association Monégasque des Activités Financières — AMAF — is the professional organisation of the Monegasque financial centre. It is not an association under the 2008 law: it is an employers’ syndicate, governed by the 1944 ordinance-law on professional syndicates.
Two names, one organisation
The organisation changed its name in 2007: ministerial decree no. 2007-224 of 16 April approves the amendment of the statutes of the syndicate called « Association Monégasque des Banques », « which takes the name Association Monégasque des Activités Financières ». The 1989 act that approved its original statutes did not name it — the 2007 decree identifies it retrospectively.
This renaming is not trivial: it marks the shift from a banking centre to a financial services centre, extended to portfolio management, funds and advisory work.
An association that certifies
Since 2014, AMAF has run two annual professional certification sessions and publishes the lists of successful candidates in the Journal de Monaco — February 2025 among the most recent. The AMAF chairman is also an ex officio member of the CCAF, the financial activities supervisory authority: a professional body therefore sits in the body that supervises its own members. Memoria records this institutional fact without commenting on it.
Robert Laure chairs the association. Memoria cites only this function, as published by the association.
Why it is archived
The Monegasque financial centre is poorly documented: its players rarely communicate, and public sources are limited to official acts. Following a professional organisation through its statute-approval decrees and certified lists means reconstructing the chronology of an entire sector — the one that sustains the Principality.
