Association des Amis du Musée océanographique de Monaco
Association registered in 2011 that brings together Friends of the Oceanographic Museum and supports its work to understand and protect the oceans, with Prince Albert II as honorary chairman.
The Association des Amis du Musée océanographique de Monaco brings together supporters of the Museum and funds part of its work. It was registered on 17 January 2011: the Minister of State’s receipt was published in the Journal de Monaco on the following 10 June, the date on which, under Monegasque law, the association acquired legal personality.
Organised patronage
The Oceanographic Museum states that its Friends include board members from more than ten nationalities and that H.S.H. Prince Albert II is honorary chairman — a role mentioned both in the official 2011 receipt and on the Museum’s page. Memoria cites only this function: board members are not named in the sources consulted.
Why it is archived
The Oceanographic Museum is the Principality’s oldest scientific institution, and the private support that accompanies it is part of its history. Documenting the birth of a Friends’ association, its declaration date and its honorary chairmanship means archiving how a public museum surrounds itself with a community.
