The Princess Grace Rose Garden is a public garden in Fontvieille dedicated to rose bushes, created in 1984 by Prince Rainier III in memory of Princess Grace. Covering more than 5,000 m², it hosts the International New Rose Competition of Monaco and weekly guided tours.

A garden born from donations

The inauguration of June 18, 1984 brought together several thousand rose bushes and hundreds of varieties, offered by garden centers and collectors from many countries. The site becomes a place for walks and floral competitions, regularly commemorated by the Stamp Office - twentieth anniversary in 2004, thirtieth in 2014.

Forty years in 2024

In 2024, the princely government and the rose garden mark the 40 years of the garden: ceremony on May 3, green wall “40”, activities around the rose competition and general public day on June 19 with presentation of the Public Prize.

Why we archive it

A rose garden is not a fixed setting: competing varieties, rearrangements, anniversaries and usage regulations transform it over the decades. Memoria records the opening dates and official milestones to situate this garden in the landscape memory of Fontvieille.

Each archive in this sheet is dated and linked to a public source. The facts are paraphrased; only titles, media, dates and links to publishers are included. A document, a photograph, a correction? Write to Memoria.
